, Next

The final death toll of the devastating "Hell on Earth" bushfires could be well above 200, according to reports of government crisis meetings.

The fires are already the worst natural disaster to ever befall Australians.

We now want to hear your opinions, stories and feelings on the Black Saturday fires. Please leave your comments below.

Please remember, all donations to the disaster relief can be made to the Channel Nine Commonwealth Bank Bushfire Appeal (who will transfer all the monies to the 2009 Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund). Coming from Vic 22 years ago of course it is saddening to see such horrific images - and especially from home. My first job was at Wilsons Prom , having spent one of the best weekends in Marysville- my condolences to all - . Churchill . Kinglake Whittlesea and all the other areas - thoughts are every bit as much as you. Well done to the volunteers and uniformed on doing whatever was needed . I did wonder what it might cost to get a number of containers - cut them in half and then - weld up or door so as to make them go further and then - of course bury - slightly away from any dwelings so as not to get too hot. To the people of Gippsland especially - hello and we think of you. . ( went to school in Mirboo North) . To all others sincere condolences - and for what its worth I have had people asking me about whats going on - from all over the globe. ... ( and I am just an ordinary person ) . ... GET BETTER WE ARE WITH YOU. Peter
To all those who have lost their homes and loved ones. My prays and thoughts are with you all each and every day. I can not imagine what you all are feeling right now. Please have faith in our country and the government that they will help you all rebuild and get your lives into some sort of normality again. Please be strong and know that Australia is behind you all.
What a great tragedy this is for the people of Victoria and Australia. We are so sorry for all those involved. God Bless all those who have died and may God take them into his care. Our thoughts and love go out to everyone involved. The courage of the Firemen and volunteers is amazing. What would we do without those brave , brave men, who give of their time, their families and sadly sometimes their lives. We are trully blessed to have them. God bless you all .
I don't believe there are any words that can truely express how we feel about the devastating fires and the destruction of property and the loss of life the fires have caused. My family send their prayers, love and support to everyone involved. Debbie & Rick Barron and family Devonport Tasmania
I can't even express how much pain I feel every time I see the news or read the paper for the people affected by the fires and if I am feeling this way then I can't imagine how the victims are feeling. I know I am not alone when I think about how much anger I feel towards the hideous creatures who started alot of these fires not one of the victims deserved to go this way. My heart goes out to you all and I hope that everything works out for you all sooner rather than later..I wish there was more I could do!! To the people who are down there volentering you are all amazing keep up the wonderfull job as you are so needed- well done
im in the local cfs at my home town after seeing the victoria fires and lifes lost it hurts that some sick person can light a fire knowing that its gona put everyones lifes at risk its murder. may life punish those who caursed your fate
The fires are still burning, yet we already have individuals trying to profit out of this disaster by taking part in a class action law suit against the Vic. Govt. and power supply company. How dare they. I suspect most of the people who lost their homes had insurance. Those homes will be rebuilt at no cost to them. Possessions will be replaced by insurance companies. The huge amount of money donated by the people of Australia will also be available to these people. Now some have taken advantage of this tragic disaster by trying to profit by taking legal action. I say to them, if you want to become wealthy, purchase a lottery ticket. P.S. Some of my hard earned money was donated to the bushfire appeal. If anyone affected by these fires stands to make a lot of money out of this disaster, then I want my money back.
Its amazing how the whole of australia has rallied round and they should be proud of themselves. These arsonists that have done this should not be given the life and luxury of jail. These people are murderers and need to be dealt with appropriately. But what we want to know is, will all the money raised go directly to the victims or will administration fees be taken off, as in many cases when money is raised for charities?
Congratulations Ch 9 for being there in Victoria, for showing all of us throughout Australia and the world, the heroism, dedication, resilience, responsiveness, and the great heart of our Nation. I would like to add - and the stuff that makes a community. From the smallest - the family unit - to the members of an organisation, a village, a town, a city, a Nation. To all those individuals who make up their community I say "well done". To those for whom a community means that one in which they have lived, I say "rebuild" - honour yourselves, your community and those who, as part of your community, died in their attempt to save their community. I know that in each affected community during the rebuilding there will be gaps. I know also that there will be others who will see the honour and value in joining those communities. I trust that those who enter those communities will always remember that the land upon which they build has others who have gone before - those who are its guardians.
My heart goes out to all! The survivors, the victims, the heroes! You are all in my prayers and Australia is mourning with you! Let it bring you much strength, courage and even if it is a liitle comfort that the nation is behind you all.
