Friday August 17, 2012
RAW FOODS
Fruit and all types of vegetables you can eat raw (not potato, parsnip or sweet potato)
Nuts, seeds, sprouted seeds or grains (see what grocer has - alfalfa & that sort of thing - if you can find sprouted Mung Beans), cold pressed olive oil or nut oil.
Sashimi and seaweed
BENEFITS
There is absolutely no processed food so undoubtedly people would feel better on this diet and more than likely lose weight.
Some nutrients are destroyed by cooking (Vitamin C in particular) so vitamin levels are higher in this diet.
Raw foods are fibre rich so your gut health would benefit.
DOWNSIDE
Some nutrients are actually made more available by cooking ie. Lycopene in tomatoes and for others cooking helps to break down the plant cell walls so that we can absorb more of the nutrients.
CONCLUSION
There are definitely benefits to including more raw food in your diet.
No need to do it indefinitely and actually cooking some foods is beneficial. Balance is what it comes down to as ever!
