Coffee calories

Instant black coffee / Long Black / Perc. coffee – no calories
With milk – 15 calories

Macchiato – 8 calories

Latte / Cappuccino / Flat White
Full cream – 224 calories (75 percent more calories than skim option)
Skim – 128 calories

Soy Latte – 171 calories

Chai Latte (syrup/powder)
Full cream – 352 calories Skim – 276 calories

Note that each serving of sugar is an additional 16 calories; each shot of syrup is 70 calories and 17 grams of sugar (equal to over 4 tsp of sugar).

Whipped cream – 72 calories and 7 grams of fat.

Burning off the calories

  • 1 X regular full cream cappuccino/latte/flat white – almost an hour of cycling or half an hour of swimming.
  • 1 full cream chai latte - an aerobics class.

How do avoid the calories

  • Try black
  • Swap to skim
  • Don't add sugar or syrups
  • Stick to a small size

Good news for tea lovers!

Teas are great as if you do take milk you tend not to take so much. Drinking green tea has even been linked to weight control. So, given that it has no calories, it's worth a shot. Swapping 3 regular flat whites in the day for green tea can save you 675 calories a day!
